LITTLE FLOWER HR. SEC. SCHOOL, PONDUR
The history of our institution is a remarkable journey of faith, dedication and service that began nearly a century ago.
Early Years (1925 – 1942)
- 1925 – Franciscan Fathers and Brothers from Germany arrived in Chennai.
- 1926 – Guided by the Archbishop of Madras‑Mylapore, they selected the under‑developed area of Pathrimedu (Theresapuram) and began their mission. Their goals included: preaching the Word of God, administering baptism, providing medical service, offering educational service, and promoting agriculture and handicrafts for selfsustenance.
- 1927 – Archbishop Dr. T. De Castro allotted five acres of land for a Christian educational institution, and the primary school was established. The school initially functioned in three thatchedroof sheds.
- 1930 – The school and the hostel for poor students received recognition from the Madras Government. Fr. Rathinam Adigalar became the first Superior and, through his efforts grew the hostel from 7 to 150 students.
- 1931 – 1932: Construction of the Shrine of St. Little Theresammal was started by Bro. Romulus in 1931 and completed by Bro. William in 1932.
World War II (1942) – The British Government deported the Franciscan missionaries, and in 1942 the institution was handed over to the Archdiocese of Madras‑Mylapore.
Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel took over in 1957.
- 1957 – His Grace Dr. Louis Mathias entrusted the school to the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel.

1996 – 2001 – Bro. K. P. Paul: Secured the SSLC Public Exam Centre;
Built the school stage and cycle stand
2001 – 2007 – Bro. Joseph Sahayam: Upgraded the High School to a
Higher Secondary School (Maths, Science & Commerce)
in 2003
July 19, 2002 – The Madras‑Mylapore Diocese was bifurcated, forming the Chengalpattu Diocese. Since then, Little Flower Higher Secondary School has functioned under the Chengalpattu Diocese.
- Joseph Sahayam designed and constructed the
Beautiful building for the Primary School.
2007 – 2011 – Bro. James Paulraj Built the Golden Jubilee Memorial
Block; organised Tournament & Jubilee Celebrations
2011 – 2013 – Bro. Jesuraj Headmaster & Correspondent
2013 – 2014 – Bro. Arokia Raj Headmaster
– Bro. Selvanathan, Correspondent
2014 – 2019 – Bro. Joseph Antony Balan, Headmaster & Correspondent
2019 – 2025 – Bro. Jesuraj Introduced English Medium
(Class VI, 2020) and constructed the Montfort Block;
Incharge – Bro. Jayabalan, later Bro.P. Augustine Raja
2025 – Present Bro.M.Anantham Introduced Class XI (English
Medium – Maths, Science & Commerce) in 2025‑26 and is
running it successfully
Major Administrative and Structural Milestones
– Under Bro.Jesuraj, EnglishMedium classes began in 2020 with the establishment of the Montfort Block and renovation of the building.
Current Status (2025 onward)
Bro. M. Anantham continues to lead the institution with dedication. He has successfully started EnglishMedium Class XI in the academic year 2025‑2026, marking another milestone in the school’s growth.
Toilet Construction for Boys
There has been generous support from the KL Move Company from Korea. They have willingly come forward to provide sanitary facilities for our school boys. This is a ₹30,00,000 (thirty lakh) project, which began in June and is now nearing completion;it’s almost in its final stage.
We express our heartfelt gratitude to them for their support and unwavering encouragement towards the growth of our school.

The school has been growing slowly and steadily, showing continuous progress over the years. A significant milestone was reached on 21st October, when the foundation stone for the Golden Jubilee Block (English Medium) was laid by Rev.Bro.Jenny Kuriakose, Provincial Superior of the Bangalore Province.
A meaningful prayer service was organized, invoking God’s blessings for the successful construction of the new building and for the bright future of our students.
